I got this set for my middle nephew’s birthday (he just turned 10). I was a bit shocked by the size of the box on receiving it, as this seems really small for a Lego set that has an RRP of almost £30. I initially wondered if Lego were trying to reduce the size of their packaging as there’s usually a fair bit of space in boxes, but this one is no different. I guess this is a combination of inflation and there being a premium added for the Avatar branding.
It’s Lego, so the quality of the set pieces and instructions is predictably high.
My nephew is pleased enough with the set, and didn’t have any problems with building it – in some ways the structure of the skimwing is similar to the way Ninjago dragons are composed (with fabric wings held taut across struts of Lego) and he’s done several of these, it’s just a bit smaller. Since the skimwing doesn’t have any legs, this is provided with a display stand with integrated scenery pieces in the base.
The Avatar minifigs are quite cool if you’re a fan of the movie(s), with lots of detail and full body printing.
Despite the positive features, I still think this set seems rather small for the price point.

What’s not to love by young people and when linked to a film they can visualise even better. Never too old – this was easy for a 12yr old but an 18yr old grandson still treats himself to the occasional Lego!
