LEGO 11029 Classic Creative Party Box Bricks Set, Family Games to Play Together, Includes 12 Mini-Build Toys: Teddy Bear, Clown, Unicorn, Fun for All Aged 5 Plus

As an introduction to the world of Lego, this is very good with plenty of simple first build instructions provided. Hopefully this then fires up the imagination to build more things as time goes on. Certainly there are plenty of general purpose pieces to enable this.

Personally, my view is that a Lego baseboard would be a very good add for this set (a pity it isn’t included) as this would make it much easier to create scenes and also to do other building.

Apart from that (hence 4 stars and not 5 stars), it is pretty good, but you may need to watch the very small pieces with younger children.

Forever a favourite in our home: Lego Classic! Nothing beats an afternoon of Lego fun, especially when the weather is terrible. Both of our kids have loved Lego building and their eyes lit up when presented with this. You just can’t go wrong with Lego Classic.

As always Lego Classic allows creativity to run free without the worry of losing essential pieces you’d find in a traditional ‘set’. This box includes 900 pieces in total. What’s great to see is some more unique pieces being included, such as the trophy. I was also excited to see the tilting pieces in here as well as small printed buttons (hearts, stars). There’s also some more technic pieces allowing you to make joins and moving creations. There’s also a fair few blocks with studs on the face allowing for more SNOT (Studs Not On Top) building opportunities. There’s no big Lego plates included here, but with such a variety of really useful pieces as well as classic bricks, there’s so much fun to be had here. This really is a great addition to the Lego box and the designs included are a great introduction to new building techniques and unleashing creativity.

At the RRP of £44.99, it is no doubt expensive. As always, it’s worth holding out for a deal on Lego Classic (which does see some good price drops). But with new pieces being added to the Classic sets each year, this is a real treat and keeps the magic of Lego very much alive!

It’s smaller than expected

I actually really like this because it brings back the imagination of Lego. We have had lots of sets where you are told what to build and you end up with a lovely model but it’s very prescribed and once it’s done it’s kind of done. A set like this takes me back to childhood when I had a box of random bricks and a base and my imagination. This set does that. I truly believe this is a ‘proper’ Lego set where imagination and not instructions rule!

It may be my nostalgia but so far my children agree.
