LEGO 42157 Technic John Deere 948L-II Skidder Set, Construction Vehicle Toy with Pneumatic Functions and 4 Wheel Drive, Model Building Kit for Engineering Enthusiasts

The LEGO Pneumatic sets are always something to look forward to. They haven’t made many in recent years, but I really enjoyed the tow truck and had been looking forward to this one. And it doesn’t disappoint.

Its half play set and half display model. There a lot of intricate functionality that looks great and all works well in play, but it doesn’t actually come with a big set of logs of anything to haul… so not really a play set. But if you already have other things to use then you’re all set.

And for me it’s all about the building experience. The mind bending cleverness of the Lego designer. I have huge amounts of Technic pieces and could never have designed this myself, its an engineering marvel. Personally I’m not one to play with these models, but as a build experience they’re just amazing. I love it.

This is a super, well detailed and intricate set that requires patience and time to build and is ideally suited to those who have a love for Lego and machinery.
This is has you’d expect from Lego a high quality product with just under 1,500 parts to connect meaning you’ll enjoy hours of building which becomes addictive to the point that you just can’t stop adding parts and building the various sections until you’ve finished it and can admire the time and effort put into construction. This superb vehicle from John Deere (who are famous for heavy machinery) features some fantastic interactive parts such as back-acter which can be raised and lowered, a pneumatic grab claw which opens and closes and raises and lowers as well as opening doors to both the drivers cab and engine bay. Even the drivers seat turns just like the real thing. I would say the 11+ age guideline is just that….a guideline and as such can be given to younger kids who already possess the technical skills and patience to build these sets from Lego. Appropriately priced in my opinion and the price is consistent with other retailers and arrives nicely boxed. Another great quality technical Lego set that will amaze anyone who loves to build Lego and would be a superb gift idea for father’s Day, birthdays, Xmas etc etc. A fantastic sized vehicle when finished too with almost identical detailing to the real thing.

We cannot continue to give our son gifts this highly priced…..which is unfortunate because they are certainly what he enjoys
